Frequently asked questions.

why is there not a price page?

My cake prices range VERY widely depending on many components. Because I am creating something that is completely custom and unique just for your order, I have to take into account of too many details outside of “I’d like a small cake please!”

Surprisingly, the cost of your cake is NOT as dependent on the size as you think.

  1. Here are the key factors I consider:

    1. Complexity of design: How long will it take me to carve intricate designs into the entirety of your cake?

    2. Design components: What am I using to “decorate” your cake - 24K edible gold, edible glitter, fresh & dried floral arrangements? How long will I have to spend curating these special items that will pair with your design perfectly? How many more hours do I have to add on for creating a floral arrangement?

    3. Personalized touches: Custom acrylic toppers, cake stands, custom stencils

When I am creating a cake, it is truly a labor of love, creativity and art. If you are looking for something “small and simple”, I am likely not the girl for you - and that’s okay!

how do i know how much my cake will be if you haven’t made it yet?

It’s definitely a more untraditional way of purchasing something but YOU DECIDE! First, you decide how big of a cake you would like. Next, we discuss design inspirations, colours and themes. I will respond to your email with the approximate price ranges of the size and designs you have selected - yes, the range will be very wide. YOU tell me at what price you would like me to design it at, and I will create a cake to fit within your budget. Ok…but what is this price range? Next question!

can you provide an approximate price range for your most commonly ordered 6” tall/extra tall cake?

This is the cake size you will see most often on my Instagram and Facebook feed. It ranges in price from $450-800+ depending on design components and complexity. This is not your everyday cake. I am passionate about my art form and I strive to create every cake as if I were to have them on a museum display.

what sizes of cakes do you create?

6” Tall - 5 layers high - feeds 12-20+ (MOST COMMON!)

6” Extra Tall - double barrel - feeds 15-45+

Multiple Tier Options - these can be customized to the amount of servings you need. Ie. the number of servings is both dependent on diameter of the cake AND number of stacked layers per tier. I could lay out every single possibility of combinations but really, it’s easier for you to tell me the number of servings you want or the height of the design you’re looking for. Nonetheless, here are some possible size combinations.

  • Small 2 tier - 6” bottom 4” top

  • Regular 2 tier - 8” bottom 6” top

  • Large 2 tier - 10” bottom 8” top

  • Regular 3 tier - 8”/6”/4”

  • Large 3 tier - 10”/8”/6”

  • 4-5+ tiers… the world is your oyster - lets create something absolutely extravagant! Faux tiers for added height are completely welcome!

why are your cakes so expensive? “so-and-so” sells them for “x”.

While I don’t feel it necessary to justify my pricing, I do get this one a lot so I figured I’d include it on the list. It is a common misconception that ingredients are expensive but in fact, it is my TIME that costs the most! Since I work in healthcare full time, cake creations are relegated to evenings, weekends and the weee hours of the morning. Most of my cake fans know me as the girl that cakes until the sun comes up, takes a brief couple hour nap, then wakes up and finishes it just in time for your pick-up.

I bake, stack, design and create for straight hours through the night. For weddings, I work through consecutive days and through the nights without any breaks so that I can optimize freshness and design in the height of my creative process. Not to mention the weeks in advance I take to consider designs and curate components.

More importantly, cake creation is a true passion where I pour my heart and soul into the entire process. My goal is to create something so intricate, detailed and stunning that it encompasses the value of a true piece of art. The value is not so much in the physical ingredients of the cake but in the journey of complex creativity that it took to get there. I take absolutely NO OFFENCE to choosing another baker over me for price reasons! In fact, I encourage it because there are so many talented bakers here in Saskatoon. My style is an intricate and unique flavour to love and I place the utmost value in my artistic creations.

How far in advance do you usually book up for cakes?

I recommend booking at least 1-2 months in advance and I only take ONE wedding per month. I do have a waitlist for cancellations if you are looking for something last minute.

Will you ever quit your day job and bake full time?

Absolutely not. I am passionate about my profession, and I am dedicated to providing my patients with the best care that I can. I love being a pharmacist as much as I love to bake, and I would never choose one over the other.

How do I cut this huge cake?

are you a licensed home business?

You bet I am! Although I do not own a commercial kitchen or storefront, I am licensed to produce low risk foods out of my own home, and I am Food Safe Certified!

Do you make fondant cakes?

I specialize in buttercream ONLY but I would be happy to refer you to fondant cake artists in the city.

can i provide the cake toppers and stands for my cake?

Yes, absolutely. I will curate these for you if needed but I am happy to incorporate your items if that is your preference.

How do I pre-order chocolate?

I do NOT take pre-orders. Chocolate bar launch dates are announced on my Instagram page @foodiepharmbabe usually about a couple weeks prior. I also send out a launch date email to website subscribers so pop your email in if you would like that sent to you! The chocolate community is WILD (in the best way). I suggest setting an alarm for the launch date and time as the bars usually sell out in MINUTES. Decide AHEAD of time which bar(s) you are going for. Get in and get out! Yes, it is this crazy and I’m the most grateful for it! Once they’re gone, they’re gone. I don’t make extra - not even for myself haha.

Do you ship your chocolate?

YES! We ship Canada wide, USA, The Netherlands, Ireland and The United Kingdom.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is a FLAT rate. I haven’t quite smoothed out these details yet, so they may change in the future. I have no idea how many people will actually want shipped products just yet and I’m not sure how much people will order. If people want KILOGRAMS of chocolate, I may have to ship per weight. But FOR NOW, flat rate it is.

Within Canada - $25

U.S.A - $30

Europe - $30+ (depends on weight and size of order. I will refund you if you overpay!)
